The Penina Championship Course is considered the most brilliant project of Sir Henry Cotton, a triple champion of the British Open who became a golf architect and settled in Algarve. Known as one of the most challenging – and satisfying – courses in the whole of Portugal, this marquee course is as unforgiving as it is beautiful.
Built in 1966. The golf course was a host to the Portuguese Open five times in a ten year period. The hotel and golf club are unique and offer outstanding views and a calm and tranquil atmosphere. Every tee, fairway and green has been rebuilt yet the character of Henry Cotton’s original design has been preserved.
Flanked by streams, ditches and water hazards, the course is maintained to the highest standard… and boasts an extensive array of subtle slopes, elevated greens and breathtaking scenery.
The course now remains much drier in winter and with its distinctive tree-lined fairways and a sprinkling of streams and lakes, Penina offers an inspirational challenge for all levels of players. Also for your pleasure, there’s the 9-hole Academy Course and the 9 hole Resort Course for which no handicap is required.
