Penha Longa has two golf courses, both designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr, inaugurated in 1992 and 1995 respectively. Trent paid special attention to the landscape while creating the par 72 Atlantic course and ensured that it complemented the natural surroundings. Rated as one of Portugal's top five, it is an 18-hole Championship course offering breath-taking views of the ocean with Estoril and Cascais to the South and the Sintra Hills to the North. The Atlantic has hosted many prestigious competitions including the Portuguese Open in 1995. The Monastery Course is one of the best in Europe offering 9 holes of deluxe golfing, and is perfectly placed amongst the wild beauty of the Sintra-Cascais Nature Reserve.
