Playa Serena was opened in 1979 and is kept in excellent condition throughout each year. The course is mainly flat with wide fairways and small sloping greens, most of which are protected by bunkers and water, a dominant feature here with some twelve holes affected. Winds from the east and west together with the length of the course and the unforgiving rough make the Angel Gallardo and Peter Allis design a considerable challenge. Many players find their problems begin at the 7th, a long hole with out-of-bounds close by on the right and water on the left demanding both power and accuracy off the tees.
