Summer get's Underway in Spain ( At Last ) !

NEWS from Penha Longa!
ESTORIL OPEN DE PORTUGAL will return to Penha Longa from June 10-13
The European Tour has announced the Estoril Open de Portugal, originally set to be played from April 1-4, will now take place from June 10-13, the week previously occupied by the Austrian Golf Open.
The tournament, to be played at Penha Longa Hotel Spa & Golf Resort, Linho Sintra, Estoril, moves to a new summer date after the week became available following the change to September 16-19 for the Austrian Golf Open on The 2010 European Tour International Schedule.
The opportunity to move the Estoril Open de Portugal from the Easter weekend to a new summer date, the week prior to the US Open Championship, will also ensure the course is presented to the highest of standards befitting of European Tour competition, following a significant €2 million refurbishment programme.

Las Colinas de Campoamor in Spain marks another considerable landmark and launch for Troon Golf and the owners for the resort. Madeira Island Floods, Palheiro still open.
The Palheiro Golf Estate has only been mildly affected by the weather conditions, with access temporarily restricted on some secondary access roads and minor instances of water infiltration. Other than slight damage to landscaping, Palheiro Village is unscathed. We are pleased to report that all members of the Palheiro Golf staff and their families are safe and well. The hotel, restaurant, golf club, spa and other facilities on the estate are operating as normal and welcoming guests after these devistating Madeira Floods.
As for the tourism sector, according to the information provided by the regional government, the hotel industry of Madeira was not affected and maintains all operating conditions safely. Hotel establishments, in general, are operational and there were, not reported, any difficulties or problems. The Madeira International Airport is also fully operational.

Salgados Lagoon has a new Wastewater Treatment Station
The new wastewater treatment station (ETAR) in Salgados will supply CS Salgados Golf Course with certified water and is operating since the end of 2009. Through enhanced water treatment technologies, the new ETAR will also supply the Ecological Natural Reserve of the Salgados Lagoon, classified as a sensitive area, allowing for a significant improvement in the lagoon’s water quality, as well as the golf course’s. This positive change in water treatment methods will also bring benefits to the grass in the golf course and subsequently, to its playing conditions.
Vall d'Or Golf
Planting the new trees.
Vall d'Or Golf have just finalized the first phase of the plantation of new trees. In total 60 cypress trees to the right of hole 9 and more than 50 trees(pines, wild olives and olives) on the second nine, all exclusively to enhance the beauty of the course, as well as to replace those damaged by strong winds; such as those that protected the green on hole 11, and which have been the cause of so many headaches to players. Shortly they will continue with the second phase of plantation which will consist in a further 30 wild olive trees to be planted along the second 9.
Competition News Vall d'Or Golf
On the 6th of January, and held under the Stableford modality, the 5th tournament of the Wednesday golf competition was held. First classified was Mrs Michaela Lange with 34 points followed by Mrs Elke Goldmann with 31 points. The gentlemen's winner was Mr Christian Lindgens with 36 points and in second place Mr Andreas Krins with 35 points.
Along the same lines on the 3rd of February, and under the same modality, the 5th competition of Wednesday golf 20099/2010 was held. The ladies winner was Mrs Christine Heimann, with 32 Points; followed by Mrs Katja Maier with 29. In the men's category the winner was Mr Christian Lindgens, with 40 Points; and the runner up Mr Eric Gulliksen, with 36 Points. The general classification after the 6th competition, is headed in the ladies category by Mrs Michaela Lange with 166 Points, and in the men's by Mr Christian Lindgens with 188 points.

LA CALA RESORT CONTINUES TO BE THE BIGGEST IN SPAIN
For the fifth consecutive year, the Royal Spanish Golf Federation has confirmed that La Cala, with 60 holes, is the country´s largest golf resort. In total there are now 416 golf clubs in the country. Andalucia, with 102, is the region with the most clubs, followed by Catalonia with 46.
The Mayor of Mijas, Antonio Sánchez, has received the news with great pleasure: “This is a very important asset for Mijas, to have the biggest golf resort of the country and the leader in its sector. The news has also been welcomed by the Real Andalucian Golf Federation. “The RFGA is delighted that La Cala Resort continues as the market leader for golf resorts in the country. It shows the importance of Andalucía as a major golf destination and highlights the range of world class facilities in the region.

Murcia is gearing up to challenge Marbella and the Costa del Sol as Spain’s golf "hotspot". There may be only 15 courses in the Murcia region as we speak, but 38 more are planned in the very near future and if the reports from our clients are anything to go by, the Costa del Sol would do well to treat the Murcia challenge seriously.
Murcia is becoming an easy destination to reach, with more flights than ever heading into Alicante and plans for a new airport at Corvera which should be ready in the middle of 2010, just over 10 minutes from Murcia city. With the many other attractions of this region, plus a less frantic pace than Marbella or the Costa del Sol, it seems certain that it will prove a viable alternative.
With superb golf clubs like Roda Golf already in place, Murcia is already "warming up" to become a hot favourite destination for golfers in Spain. Roda boasts the first PGA Academy in continental Europe, which has the latest "cutting-edge" technology plus, a magnificent clubhouse, but it is the par-72, 6,755 yard course which is the centrepiece of the spectacular development consisting of villas, terraced houses and apartments.

In October of 2009 the Oitavos Dunnes golf course in Portugal was hounored to be placed at number 88 on the most respected golf course list in the world. Golf Magazine also acknowledged Oitavos Dunnes as the 47th best golf course in the world, constructed in the last 50 years.
The top 100 golf course list is compiled by Golf Magazine for the last 30 years and is determined by an independant panel of golf experts. This respected list is published every two years and read by over 7 million people worldwide.
Oitavos Dunnes is the only course in Portugal and indeed, one of only three courses to be recognised on this presigious golf course list. Irish Ryder cup hero Paul McGinley suggested that Oitavos Dunnes has the potential to be the best golf course in Europe.

Valderrama Golf course in Spain also made the Best golf course list for 2009 with a position of number 76, not only "tipping" the score of Otiavos, but also becoming the only Spanish course to make this `prestigious list. The Valderrama Golf course also made number 1 on the top`20 golf courses in Europe, as compiled by "Golf Monthly".
Valderrama is a 6356 metres par 71 golf course, with no hole of less than championship quality although, it can be fully enjoyed by players of all handicaps, thanks to the genius of Robert Trent Jones, Senior, whom many consider the leading golf architect of his day.
Club de Golf Valderrama is located in Andalucia, the largest and southern-most region of Spain. A few miles north of Gibraltar, it is approximately two hours' drive from Cádiz and one and a half hours from Málaga. The climate in this region of Spain is ideal for playing golf all year round.
